BIS Portal: Boater Information System Portal

The Boater Information System (BIS) is sponsored by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Association through a grant from Washington Sea Grant Program. BIS is designed through User-Centered Design (UCD) and Cognitive Engineering principles in order to create a product that boaters will actually use.

BIS a prototype web-based application to help boaters access the best meteorological and oceanographic or METOC information for Puget Sound waterways.

BIS is giving sailors, power boaters, kayakers, fishers, windsurfers, and kite boarders their own web portal tailored to their selected information needs. BIS is destination-driven so boaters can plan trips with information specific to where they're going.

BIS delivers over the Web new high-resolution weather forecasting tools, designed specifically for boaters, and based on state-of-the-art weather models, plus currents and tides. We hope to add more features in the future.
